We are proud to honor the life and legacy of Phyllis Miriam Halpern with the newly established Phyllis Miriam Scholarship Fund.

Phyllis Miriam was a vibrant, generous force– a visionary, poet, teacher, advocate, lover of the arts, changemaker, and peace activist. She was a loving mother and grandmother who, in raising Belle Linda Halpern (IE’s founder), influenced the values and actions that led to our organization’s establishment in 2015.

Phyllis was a visionary who believed fiercely in justice and education. She believed in the transformative power of creativity and community. She lived her values through the arts, education, and social justice. Her conviction that the arts bring soulfulness and humanity to education lives on in IE’s embodied, creative approach.

Today, as educators continue to face immense pressure, burnout, and isolation, this scholarship fund will expand access to support and community that they need to stay in the work with clarity and heart.

In recognition of her life and values, all of the funds raised through the Phyllis Miriam Scholarship Fund will go towards grants and scholarships to support instructional leaders, classroom teachers, school-based social workers and teacher leaders.

Gifts made in honor of the Phyllis Miriam Scholarship Fund will be used to provide financial assistance to educators in alignment with this scholarship’s purpose.
